Servicing North Melbourne 3051 and the surrounding inner city. No callout fee.
North Melbourne is a mix that changes the job street by street. Victorian terraces and workers’ cottages with lath and plaster walls sit alongside converted warehouses with height and hard surfaces, apartment buildings with owners corporations and lift bookings, and shop-top dwellings around Errol Street. A repaint in a single-fronted cottage and a repaint in a third-floor apartment are not the same piece of work, and pretending otherwise is how quotes go wrong.
Melbourne City Maintenance has worked across inner Melbourne since 2005. We come to you, look at the property, and tell you what it needs before anyone puts a number on it.

We Come to You in North Melbourne
Coverage. All of North Melbourne 3051, and the streets around it — Parkville, West Melbourne, Kensington and Carlton are part of the same run.
Travel. No callout fee. You are not charged for us coming out to look at the job.
Timing. We do not take same-day work. We agree a start date with you instead, based on what the job needs and what is already booked in. Most enquiries get an answer the same day, and you get a real date rather than a window we might miss.
Quoting without a visit. Painting needs someone to see the plaster, the existing paint and the timber. Handyman and repair work is different — for most of it we can give you a rough guide over the phone or from a few photos, and confirm it on the day.
Buildings and access. If you are in an apartment or a converted warehouse, tell us early. Lift bookings, loading dock times and owners corporation rules decide how a job is scheduled, and they are much easier to work around when they are known up front rather than discovered on the first morning.
What North Melbourne Homes Usually Need
Interior repaints where old plaster needs proper repair before anything is painted, ceilings and cornices in period cottages, and apartment interiors where the work has to fit around a building’s access rules. A large share of the housing here is tenanted, so a good deal of it is turnaround work running to an inspection or lease date rather than to a leisurely schedule.

What We Do in North Melbourne
Interior painting
Whole houses, single rooms, ceilings and decorative plaster. Preparation is the part that decides how it looks in three years. More on interior painting.
Plaster and crack repair
In an older cottage, a crack that is filled and painted over usually comes back. We find what is moving before we cover it. More on plaster repairs.
Apartments and common property
Hallways, stairwells, balconies and common areas, coordinated with the owners corporation or building manager rather than around them. More on strata painting.
Handyman work
The list of small jobs that never quite gets finished, done in one visit instead of one trade at a time. More on handyman services.
How Pricing Works
Painting is quoted per job once we have seen the property, because preparation drives the number more than the paint does.
Handyman and repair work is booked by time. A half day is four hours on site at $90 an hour — $360. A full day is $640, which works out at $80 an hour and applies once a full day is completed. Materials are charged separately. Prices are for business hours, Monday to Friday.
Quotes are free. Most interior work is done room by room, so you usually keep the rest of the house while it happens — if you are working from home, say so and we will sequence around the room you need.

Worth Reading Before You Book
Common Questions
Do you charge to come out and quote?
No. There is no callout fee and quotes are free. Painting is quoted after we have seen the property, because the preparation is what drives the price. Handyman and repair work is different — for most of it we can give you a rough guide over the phone or from a few photos and confirm it on the day.
Can you deal with the owners corporation and lift bookings?
Yes, and on an apartment or a converted warehouse it is usually the first thing to sort out. Lift bookings, loading dock times and the building’s own rules about work hours decide when the job can actually happen, and they are worth confirming before a start date is agreed rather than after. We will ask about them at the quote.
How soon can you start?
We do not take same-day work. What we do is agree a start date with you based on what the job actually needs and what is already booked in. Most enquiries get an answer the same day, so you will know quickly rather than waiting on a callback.
What will it cost?
Painting is quoted per job after a site visit. Handyman and repair work is booked by time — a half day is four hours on site at $90 an hour, $360; a full day is $640, which works out at $80 an hour and applies once a full day is completed. A friend found reviews of this company on a neighbourhood website so I included MCM in my list when I sought quotes for repairing and painting weatherboards on my house.
